Offshore Wind Farms and Fishing Activity in the Irish Sea
This research poster examines how offshore wind farm operation affects
fishing activity in the Irish Sea. Using AIS-based fishing effort data
and a difference-in-differences approach, I compare wind farm areas to
nearby control waters before and after operation begins. The results
suggest lower fishing effort within treated wind farm polygons and
point to more localized shifts in fishing behavior rather than clear
industry-wide losses.
